Tamara Rhodes and Jena Fair, two of Vancouver's most enchanting female singers, will be performing 2 sets of live Jazz at Bella Candela Bar & Grill 109 West Esplanade, North Vancouver Sunday, June 17th. “A Lazy Afternoon of Jazz & Wine for ALS”
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and funds for the Vancouver ALS Adventure Challenge, an annual fundraising event hosted by the Nilsson Foundation, a federally registered charity foundation that has raised over $285,000 in the past 3 years for ALS. All proceeds of the event will go directly to support the 3,000 lives of Canadians battling ALS and to funding ALS research. The average equipment costs average $137,000 per patient; nursing and home care costs can be up to 10 times this amount.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rapidly progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease. It attacks the nerve cells, especially those in the spinal cord, which control the voluntary muscles throughout the body. When these muscles fail to receive messages, they eventually lose strength, atrophy and die. ALS results in complete paralysis and death, generally within three to five years of diagnosis. Until a cure is found, two to three Canadians will continue to die everyday from ALS.
